Once again sorry for the randomly spaced posts, I’m currently finishing up the last of Mira and Nails molds as well as working on their additional faceplates, I hope i have the additional faces ready to go on sale on the shipping day of the LE dolls but Im not sure thats going to happen, I’m having the faceplates printed in a high detail acrylic to save some sanding time (and its amazing how nice the prints are, In the photo of Nail’s “been fighting” expression the 3d print has only one very light coat of a non “scratch filling” primer and the lines are just barely visible, two coats of primer with a light sanding between is enough to make the print lines disappear) but I’m already running behind my initial release and don’t want to hold the dolls back any longer just to have the additional faces ready on the same day. For those who are curious there will be an initial 10 additional expressions for both Mira and Nails, counting the 3 that come with the pre sale dolls and kits thats a total of 13 to start with.
Ive also been turning my work process on Mira and Nails into PDF tutorials for Dennis and My Patreon page that will go live on the 31st of this month! We’ve both been working on some cool exclusive content for it, Including some amazing Illustration and comic work by Dennis, featuring Steve and the gang as well as My tutorials on doll making, creating 1,2 and 3 piece molds, The proper way to use Teflon rods when making molds/casting, creating a proper dividing line on a part to be cast, how to efficiently add sprues to vent a complex mold, mold wall construction, the basics or working with resin/silicone, finishing of 3d prints to eliminate print lines, the proper way to create hollow shells of your ZBrush model to save on 3d print costs, making a joint in ZBrush for maximum poseability and many many many more.
At the moment we plan to have 7 different pledge levels starting at $2 and ending at $70, a few of the patron rewards will include, digital and printed copies of our finished books, an exclusive Steve faceplate sent to you each month, exclusive PDF tutorials on my doll making techniques, exclusive pin ups and comic illustrations as well as mini comics, the first chance to order new doll releases, limited editions and store updates and last but not least a personal mentorship option where Dennis or I will help you learn (if you are a beginner) or refine your (doll making/molding/casting/ZBrush/illustration) skills via Skype/phone/email/all the above.
The Steve comic is something that Ive been working on for years so its pretty exciting to see it becoming reality. People have been asking me about Steve, Vince, Mira, Spade, Nails for years now and its finally time to share their story. It also feels nice that Ive finally managed to put together all my gathered notes on doll making into useful tutorials, also something that has been years in the making and somewhat overdue. If any of you know anyone interested in learning any of the above please pass on the info, I’m going to start out with mostly the basics but i will also share some advanced techniques that you aren’t going to see anywhere else (aside from coming here to my studio and taking a personal class).
And last but not least I’m sharing another amazing surprise from Aelith (I’m starting to get spoiled having cool art of my characters sent to me) Its an indescribably wonderful feeling when another artist takes your characters, has fun and does something this cool with them. Poor Vince, he’s TOTALLY out of his league with those two,… Never get into a card game with a guy named Spade who walks around with an ace in his hat. NEVER! haha.
