Dodo eye-test by DonnKinney Dodo eye-test by DonnKinney
Quick dodo eye test, As some of you know in my “ever shrinking” spare time Ive been working on a dodo recreation, (more info in below pic link) I very rarely post my non-doll sculpting work so i thought it would be fun to share something a little different..  I cast the face in a slightly translucent light blue-grey resin, as dodos (at least from what little evidence is left) had bluish grey faces, with a few vivid blue highlights and some dark grey/grey green to black areas around the eyes and on the skin of the lower beak. Still needs to be painted of course, attached to the body then feathered.. the eyes are from an eye maker in Malta who specializes in birds.. The skull in the background is a museum cast of the dodo specimen in the royal Ontario museum. I used the cast as a base for sculpting my final.

The eye really brings it to life!  Looking good.  If dolls didn't take up so much of your time, you could probably go into model-making for museums!  :)

I love it when a piece is far enough along to actually put the eyes in,.. the eyes make all the difference :-)  Would love to do model work for museums but of course the dolls keep me working 24/7 ,maybe if I ever retire from doll making,..hmmmm :D

Late spring is the deadline of champions! I may be have my first BJDs molded by then. Opening my own tattoo and piercing studio has tapped my time this year, though! Not that I'm complaining about business being good. ;)
